More about Reine

Reine’s academic journey kicked off at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, where she laid the foundation for her future as a medical laboratory scientist, specialising in the captivating realm of cytogenetics.

Continuing her quest for knowledge, she embarked on a part-time master’s degree in human genetics with the University of Stellenbosch’s Rare Diseases Research Group. Her master’s thesis was centered on the diagnostic applications of microarrays within South Africa’s pre- and neo-natal settings. Simultaneously, Reine completed a postgraduate diploma in classical and molecular cytogenetics through the University of Montpellier.

With almost six years of dedicated service at in the clinical service laboratory setting, she started as an intern and steadily ascended the ranks to manage the human molecular department. During her tenure, Reine played a pivotal role in implementing chromosomal microarrays for both pre- and post-natal applications, establishing her lab as a pioneer in offering pre-natal microarrays as a diagnostic assay. Moreover, she implemented PGT-A (Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidies) for the detection of chromosomal abnormalities in products of conception samples. August 2023 marked a new chapter in Reine’s career as she joined Diagnostech as a Field Application Scientist. In this role, she leverages her expertise to bolster the molecular portfolio, advancing diagnostic capabilities in the genetics field.

Outside of her professional life, Reine thrives in the great outdoors, often seeking solace in the mountains or by the sea. She’s also a green-thumb enthusiast, caring for a variety of plants, and finds joy in culinary experimentation and the practice of yoga to maintain balance and well-being.
