Ingrid Smit

Ingrid’s academic journey started at the University of Pretoria, where she delved into the exciting world of science, completing her BSc degree in Human Genetics, Physiology, and Psychology. Eager to expand on her knowledge, she pursued a BScHons in Genetics at Stellenbosch University, followed by an MSc in Genomic Medicine in 2023 from the University of the Witwatersrand.

Having moved around quite a bit, Ingrid chose to settle in Johannesburg. She therefore joined the DDD-Africa research group at WITS after completing her Master’s, gaining valuable experience in NGS data analysis, clinical research, lab experimentation, and bioinformatics. In January 2025, Ingrid took a bold step into the corporate world as a Technical Sales Specialist at Diagnostech, supporting the Molecular portfolio. She is dedicated to expanding her skills while providing unwavering support to her new team.

Ingrid is a true dog lover and cherishes moments spent with her friends and family. She embraces a healthy lifestyle by practicing mixed martial arts and exploring the art of gluten-free cooking and baking.
