Electrophoretic separation of molecules such as nucleic acids and proteins remains a staple in any modern molecular biology laboratory. This is a vital technique that allows the investigator to move charged molecules through a gel or free fluid medium under the influence of an electric field, allowing for the characterisation of those molecules.
Multiplexing allows multiple samples to be processed in the same reaction by assigning unique sample tags/IDs. For example, using 1x GEM reaction to process 4 unique samples in a single lane on the Chromium chip significantly reduces the per sample cost of the assay.
